@michaelgharvey From my calculation Smith & Brown had 2,805,378,526 tip-nucleotides. However, the 79,383 tip tree was built in a piecewise fashion: 55 clades, each with varying number of tips (5:8,412) and multi-gene alignment lengths (1,536:105,074).
